Imo ex-Speaker joins guber race
• Promises to restore state’s past glory
A former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Kelechi Nwagwu, yesterday, declared interest to run for the governorship seat of the state on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
The governorship election in the state, The Guardian gathered, will be conducted in November 2023.
In a ceremony held at the party’s headquarters, Wetheral Road, Owerri, Nwagwu, said he is contesting to reset the state and restore it to its past glory.
Nwagwu said: “I want to realise my dream of resetting Imo and returning it to its former glory. I have what it takes to displace the incumbent governor, and get Imo working again.”
Decrying the menace of money politics, Nwagwu, said: “We all have money; but it is not all about money. It is about competence and passion for selfless service to humanity.”
