Imo moves to strengthen security, rolls out measures

Postpones  inauguration of Ebubeagu

Imo State government, yesterday, urged residents not to panic over insecurity being witnessed in some parts of the state, assuring of its resolve to secure life and property in the 27 Local Councils.
 
Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Dr. Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji, gave the assurance in a statement yesterday.

On the efforts made by the state government to secure life and property of residents, Ugorji noted that security was the responsibility of everyone. He said:  “Governor Hope Uzodimma’s vision is for shared prosperity in a secured and safe homeland.
 
“With respect for human rights and civil liberties, and with value for the lives and well-being of all the citizens and visitors.
 
“Security is the responsibility of all of us. If you see something or hear something, please, say something. 
 
“You can reach the ministry at 09157628311. We are on duty for 24 hours. We are here to serve and protect you.”

MEANWHILE, the state has postponed the inauguration of the Imo Security Organisation (IMSO), earlier scheduled to hold yesterday , till further notice, citing “unforeseen” circumstances.
 
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma / Chief of Protocol, Chief Bright Nwelue, regretted the inconveniences the postponement may have caused.
 
“Please, be informed that the inauguration ceremony of the Imo Security Organisation (IMSO), scheduled for Tuesday, August 23, 2022, is hereby postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. 
 
“A new date will be communicated in due course. We regret any inconveniences this development may have caused you. Please, bear with us.”
 
The Guardian learnt that there had been widespread criticisms over the present Imo Vigilante Group, fondly called by some people as Ebubeagu, accusing the operatives of killing persons extra –judicially . The state government has since denied it.
