Imo police kill ‘Bugatti’, suspected armed robber

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have killed a suspected notorious armed robber, popularly known as Bugatti.
Confirming the incident , the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Michael Abattam, said the bandit was neutralised in a gun battle with the operatives, following information the police received from the vigilance group in Nsu community in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the State, 
 
He noted that other suspected members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.
 
According to him, a revolver pistol, which was carted away by some hoodlums during the #EndSARS protests last year, when the protesters invaded the Police Area Command in the LGA. was recovered.  

 
The statement signed by Abattam, read: “Following the information received by the Vigilante group of Nsu Community, on 20/08/2021 at about 1420 hours, that one of the notorious leader of an armed robbery gang and who is in the wanted list of the community, popularly known as “Bugatti”,  whose gang has been terrorizing the Nsu Community in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State was  sighted with two of his members in the  community. 

“The community’s vigilante group who has been working in synergy with the police, immediately alerted the police patrol team within the area and they moved to where the suspect and his gang were hiding in the bush. On sighting the security men, they opened fire . And during the gun duel, the gang leader of the group, “Bugatti “ was neutralised and his Revolver Pistol recovered at the station. While the other two suspects escaped with bullet wounds.”

On how the pistol was recovered, the Police official said: “When the a Revolver Pistol was checked, it was discovered that, it was one of the police Revolver Pistol that was carted away during the #ENDSARS saga when the Police Area Command Headquarters at Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State was attacked by hoodlums.” 
 
He explained the efforts made to apprehend other fleeing suspects. Abattam further  hinted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hassaini,  has urged  locals in the state to aid the police in fighting crime and criminality.
