The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Emeka Nduka, has announced the death of the member representing Ideato North Constituency, Arthur Egwim, who was a lawyer.

Egwim, who was a second term state lawmaker before his death, yesterday, was first elected in 2015 and re -elected in 2019. He hailed from Isiokpo, Ideato North Council of the state.

In 2015, he was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and re-elected in 2019 under the Action Alliance (AA). He contested in the just concluded general elections to represent Ideato North and Ideato South Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), but lost.

A statement issued, yesterday, which was signed by Nduka, reads: “With heavy heart, but with total submission to the will of God, we, the members of Imo State House of Assembly, wish to announce the death of one of our own, a ranking parliamentarian and strong voice in state Assembly, Innocent Egwim, whose sudden death occurred on Monday, March 27 after a brief illness.

“Imo House of Assembly has, indeed, lost one of its finest and best brains.

“His death would, for a long time, create a vacuum in the House.’’

“May his gentle soul rest in peace, and may God grant his wife and members of his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. We’ll miss him dearly.”

The Speaker noted that the burial arrangements of the deceased would be made known by the family.
