Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun on Thursday urged 10,000 youths in the state inaugurated into Imole Youth Corps, to ensure the success of the programme.

The Imole Youth Corps is an empowerment programme of the state government to provide job opportunities for the youth in the state.

Speaking during the inauguration in Osogbo, Adeleke said that the programme was a major highlight of his administration’s push to address youths unemployment in the state.

The governor described the programme as “a transitional arrangement designed to provide opportunities for our youths from all walks of life.

“Today’s gathering is a continuation of our efforts to provide job opportunities for our teaming youths.

“10,000 youths spread across the 332 political wards are engaged to provide services in the area of health, security, environment and education.

“The newly engaged corps are to be trained to deliver support services across the grassroots economy and sectors,” he said.

He charged members of the corps to demonstrate strong commitment in whatever sector they would be assigned to.

On other efforts to tackle unemployment in the state, Adeleke said more than N1 billion revolving loan had been committed to small business financing.

The governor also said that his administration was also enforcing local content in the implementation of the state’s infrastructure projects.

“I am happy to announce that through our local content policy, financial access to businesses, and ongoing youth agropreneur programme, more than 250,000 of our population were provided job opportunities.

“The figures are set to increase as we launch the agropreneur project in each of the 30 local government and area council,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Moshood Olagunju, urged the members of the corps to be good ambassadors of the programme.

Moshood said that the engagement of the 10,000 youths was a demonstration of the governor’s love and passion for youth development in the state
