INEC pledges to ensure hitch-free Ondo guber poll
• Tasks political parties, gladiators on peaceful exercise
• Aiyedatiwa plans to dualise Akure-Idanre Highway
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it is committed to ensuring a hitch-free governorship election in Ondo State.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who emphasised that polling units would be opened on time as planned, spoke, yesterday while monitoring the mock accreditation exercise across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Yakubu, while appealing to political parties and their standard-bearer, as well as their supporters, to maintain peace during the forthcoming election, stressed that the mock accreditation exercise was part of the commission’s preparation.
He said that the exercise was to further test the functionality of the system.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has promised to dualise the Akure-Idanre Road to boost investors’ interest in exploring tourism opportunities in Idanre Local Council.
Aiyedatiwa promised during his campaign to the locality that he would ensure comprehensive development across the council area.
He said his administration was committed to improving critical infrastructure, boosting economic activities, and ensuring the welfare of residents through sustained and strategic investments.
However, traditional rulers in the council advocated proper channelisation of the Owena Dam to provide water for residents and provision of fertilisers for farmers, as well as enhanced security.
