The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), following a protracted leadership dispute.
The commission’s decision comes in compliance with a recent Supreme Court judgment delivered on 27 November 2024, which settled the longstanding battle for APGA’s leadership.
The legal struggle began in 2023, with Ezeokenwa and Edozie Njoku at odds over the party’s chairmanship, sparking multiple court proceedings.

The Supreme Court, in a unanimous verdict, ruled that Edozie Njoku’s claim to the position was invalid, affirming Ezeokenwa as the legitimate chairman.
INEC’s National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun, in a statement, confirmed the commission’s alignment with the apex court ruling.
“The commission has been served with the judgment of the Supreme Court… delivered on 27th November 2024, recognising Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the party,” he said.
“In compliance with the judgement of the apex court, the Commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as the chairman of APGA and reinstated his name on our website accordingly.”
