In the face of socio-economic and political challenges confronting the country, the convener of a political pressure group, The True Democrats, Mr. Clifford B. Ofunne, has lent his voice in support of regional government.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja, Ofunne noted that restructuring Nigeria will attract speedy development as well as address the problems of insecurity, education, and infrastructure deficits.

According to him, regional government will drive production of locally made goods for consumption and exports, improve power supply, boost agriculture, and ensure efficient policing of lives and property.

The True Democrats is a political pressure group with distinctive features on how to change political culture, destinies, and narratives.

It is poised for the birth of a new political institution that will support the government in providing long lasting solutions to the numerous challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation.

Ofunne also appealed to the citizens to support the vision, mission, and core values of TTD to enable it serve properly as an intermediary between the citizens and the government.

He stated that no nation can develop with the system of government practiced in Nigeria.

According to him, political parties deliberately design the roadmap for any selected government and not the elected president to pursue his or her agenda.

Enduring ideologies must be developed by a group of patriotic technocrats, setting out developmental goals to be achieved within a specified period of time.

For instance, a 20-year programme directed towards having a great economy in all ramifications that will place Nigeria among the comity of developed nations.”

Ofunne urged Nigerians not to trivialise issues of national development based on emotions, ethnicity and religion, particularly as the country goes to the polls in 2023, as, according to him, the survival of the country relies largely on the outcome of the 2023 election.

Consequently, Ofunne called for the support of The True Democrats as well as the trust of all well-meaning Nigerians to be able to organise a system of government that is people-oriented in its ideology and has the legitimacy to parade itself as a political institution worthy of redesigning other institutions to operate independently as they were originally wired to function according to the act that established them without compromise.

Adding: “The growth of our economy is embedded in and dependent on patriotism. There is no way a wrong application and approach can yield a good result.”

Ofunne noted that the TTD Worldwide Initiative has put together a model and is gathering patriotic Democrats of great minds to rescue, redesign, and rebuild Nigeria through a renewed political narrative.
