The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday, hailed the reception accorded its delegation by senior members of Israel’s Knesset in Jerusalem as a “historic” diplomatic milestone in its international campaign for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

 

The group said that the engagement formed part of its ongoing international advocacy efforts and reflected what it described as Kanu‘s long-held belief that Biafra’s aspirations would be advanced through strategic partnerships with Israel and the United States.

 

In a statement by its spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group said the delegation, coordinated by Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, head of IPOB’s Fourth Administration Directorate of State, met with Knesset Deputy Speaker Nissim Vaturi and Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, Limor Son Har-Melech.

 

The group expressed appreciation to the Israeli lawmakers for the “warm, brotherly and highly productive reception” accorded its delegation.

 

Nwaọgụ said: “The warm, brotherly, and highly productive reception accorded to our delegation in Jerusalem, a significant milestone in IPOB’s peaceful international diplomatic outreach.

 

“Sincerely grateful for the solidarity expressed – particularly the recognition that this is a global struggle between good and evil, and that good shall ultimately triumph when principled nations stand together.

 

“Powerfully echo the longstanding conviction of our leader… that Biafra’s redemption will be advanced through strategic partnerships with Israel and the United States of America, rooted in shared values of justice, liberty, and human dignity.”

 

The group further argued that the Jewish and Biafran peoples share historical experiences of persecution, discrimination, displacement and existential threats, describing the establishment of Israel in 1948 as an inspiration.

 

It also maintained that an independent Biafra would provide what it called “a secure homeland and safe haven” for persecuted Judeo-Christians and other vulnerable minorities in Nigeria.
