The Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC) has officially inaugurated the executive members of the Central Zone, urging them to avoid engaging in partisan politics and instead focus on the Ijaw struggle, as exemplified by the late Isaac Adaka Boro.

 During the inauguration ceremony at Ijaw House, Dr. Doubra  Okotete, the President of IYC worldwide, emphasized the importance of steering clear of divisive politics that could harm the council and the Ijaw nation. He stressed the need to keep political issues separate from the leadership’s responsibilities.

He said, “Please, take a cue and ensure you don’t tackle to politics that would set the council apart.The leadership under my watch is very much interested in ensuring the issues of politics is kept far from the leadership business.”

 Dr. Enebraye Orusengha, the newly appointed Chairman of the Central Zone executives, pledged to serve with dedication, purpose, and integrity, promising to safeguard the interests of all Ijaw people.

He highlighted the pressing need to advocate for the creation of additional local government areas in the state, citing the inadequacy of the current eight local governments.

He said the Central zone leadership intends to collaborate with stakeholders, including the Supreme Egbesu Council, to address the issue of the existing local government structure.

Orusengha, said the council aim to establish a committee to review relevant laws and advocate for the establishment of more local government areas in Bayelsa State.

 Furthermore, the Central Zone leadership emphasized the importance of unity among Ijaws, urging a spirit of brotherhood and cooperation.

He reiterated their commitment to serving the people with humility, sincerity, purpose, and dedication, emphasizing that their mandate is to protect and defend every citizen of the nation.

He said, “While Central Zone will queue behind the National President of Council to advocate for development and the welfare of our people, we will also identify gaps as a zone and see how we fill this gap.

He said, “Myself and the Executive Council, first and foremost, we want to query the existence of only eight local governments in Bayelsa  State. The continued existence of eight local governments in Bayelsa State is an aberration.

“And as a zone, we have a work to do. In no distance time, there is going to be a committee set up by my  the Executive Council where they are going to empirically go through the constitution of Nigeria and every relevant law to discover and to see how we can advocate for the creation of more local government areas in Bayelsa  State.”

The Central Zone leadership expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State for facilitating a peaceful election process and reiterated their commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities with integrity and dedication.
