A 25-year-old man, Kehinde Muse, has committed suicide after his 21-year-old lover, Rasheedat Animashaun, dumped him. The incident occurred at No. 56, Modele Street Surulere, Lagos Mainland. The first suicide incident reported to the police this week in Lagos.

It was gathered that the deceased had sent a text message to Animashaun, informing her of his decision to kill himself. The girlfriend was said to have informed his family members, as they all rushed to his house on Modele Street, Surulere.

However, by the time they arrived at his residence, Muse had been unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

The police spokesman, Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident. He said: “On Wednesday, at about 6:30p.m., Surulere Police Station received information that one Kehinde Muse locked himself in his room and drank poisonous substance known as sniper. He was rushed to hospital, but died on arrival.”

It was gathered that the deceased’s lover, Rasheedat Animashaun, had dumped him two weeks ago because of his alleged high libido. Residents said the young woman had complained that Muse liked sex and she could not cope with his demand.

Another resident told newsmen the suicide may have stemmed from the fact that the young man was not working and depended on the girl financially.

“The guy was not going anything. It was the girl that was working as an office secretary. She was the one taking care of him financially. He was even sent to learn how to repair air conditioners but he did not achieve much there.

“So, two weeks ago, the girl said she was tired and dumped him. She complained that all he does was sit at home, eat free food and then have sex countless times,” a source said.

Unable to accept their breakup, Muse was said to have sent a message to Animashaun threatening to commit suicide if she insisted on leaving him. She was said to have notified his parents about the message, ran to his room only to discover that Muse had drunk a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper.

His parents were immediately contacted and he was rushed to a hospital but he died on arrival. “He was rushed to the hospital but did not make it. His body has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy,” Bala stated.

The police spokesman also disclosed that on September 15, at about 8:35p.m., one Dominic Ukaegbu, the Chief Security Officer of Fareast Mercantile Company Limited, Mushin reported at Mushin Police Station, that one Honda City Saloon Car with Reg No KRD 755, belonging to the company was stolen from park.

“On the strength of the report, detectives from Mushin Division launched a search for the stolen vehicle. The car was recovered along Western Avenue area of Surulere, Lagos. One Ebosie Ugochukwu was arrested while negotiating to sell the stolen car at the rate of N400,000. The suspect has confessed to the commission of crime. He will be charged to court,” he said.
