Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the General Overseer, House on the Rock, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, have described the Chairman, Guardian Group, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru as a committed and principled woman of excellence.

They said this, yesterday, at the Service of Praise and Thanksgiving to celebrate Lady Maiden’s 70th birthday, held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Lagos.

In his tribute, Jonathan applauded Lady Maiden’s great achievements and devotion to the service of humanity. The former president noted that her dedication and commitment to sound management and principles is a source of inspiration to many Nigerian women, especially her holding managerial positions in the media and publishing industry.

He said: “The Guardian Newspaper under your watch has flourished by building on the sound and principled legacies on which it was established many years ago. As a good citizen, you have also exhibited patriotism, zeal for the development and unity of our nation by ensuring that The Guardian Newspapers remain objective in advocating for social justice and the rule of law in our society.”

Amosun saluted Lady Maiden’s managerial and leadership skills in nurturing The Guardian newspaper as one of Nigeria’s credible media outfits. He said: ‘I join you, your family, friends and associates in celebrating this milestone age, and in thanking Almighty God for His benevolence over your life during the past seven decades.

“A cursory look into your life speaks volumes about your contributions to the media industry and other business concerns in Nigeria and beyond.“I salute you for your managerial and leadership skills, as exemplified by the numerous accomplishments you have recorded in various spheres of human endeavour, particularly how you have succeeded in nurturing The Guardian Newspaper as one of Nigeria’s credible media outfits.”

Adefarasin, in his tribute, described the celebrant as a pillar of support to the Ibru family, even after the demise of her husband. He said: “She is a dear friend of our family. As we celebrate this great princess of the Ibru clan, my mind goes to proverb 31vs 10: ‘Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.’

The words truly characterises the woman we celebrate today. She is truly an Amazon, heroine, leader’s leader, champion, philanthropist and compassionate. To her dearly departed husband, she was a loving wife.“When Alex Ibru took the bullet for many of us on that day, it was devastating. Many of you will not know how painful it was for late uncle Alex, but she covered him, took the responsibility. She was his confidant. Every secret was made open before her. She took the baton of fighting for the family and standing up for his values. She fought like Deborah in the Bible.”

Arch Bishop, Metropolitan Primate, Church of Nigeria, Primate Nicholas Okoh described the celebrant as a tree planted by the river.“We join you to celebrate and appreciate God for you life right from childhood to this age. We recall with much gratitude to God your commitment to the church, especially the Church of Nigeria.

“We can say with confidence that the words of the psalmist are indeed true concerning you: ‘The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.Psalms 92:12
