Kano anti-graft agency blocks N160m, quizzes Kwankwaso’s nephew today

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has secured a post-no-debit on an account linked to the alleged local government contract scam in the state, blocking N160 million in the process, while moving to recover N440 million.

This is as investigators are to continue the grilling of some of the key figures in the investigation.

It was also gathered that Musa Garba Kwankwaso, nephew to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, would be quizzed today.

He is to answer questions regarding the involvement of his company, Novomed Pharmaceuticals, in the alleged fraud.

The contract, said to have been awarded without due process, involved each local council allegedly paying about N9 million monthly, and amounting to N396 million monthly.

The reported scandal came to the fore when a United States-born Nigerian filmmaker and content creator, Bello Galadanchi, alleged that the state government directed each of the 44 local council areas to pay about N10 million for drug supply, with the contract reportedly awarded exclusively to Novomed Pharmaceuticals.

According to Galadanchi, 25 council areas had allegedly made payments for this month into the company’s account.

Critics had alleged a lack of transparency in the dealings of the councils’ interim management committees appointed by Governor Yusuf in March at the tenure expiration of the elected council chairmen.

The governor had, late last week, distanced himself from the contract by denying prior knowledge of the deal and ordering an immediate probe into the matter.
