Kano Executive Council Approves over N310b for Infrastructure, Economy and Social Development

Kano state executive council has approved a total sum of N310,266,203,46 to several projects targeted at improving infrastructure, social economy development and enhance welfare of the citizens.

Addressing journalists on the outcome of the 38th council meeting held recently at the Government house, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya said the huge investment covers Education, Health, Water Resources, Works and Infrastructure among other sectors of the economy.

Ministry of Education:

In its continued commitment to improving access to quality education and supporting students across the State, the Council approved several interventions under the Ministry of Education, council approved the sum of N238,020,000.00 for the purchase of UTME (JAMB) forms for distribution to eligible candidates across the State.

Approval was also granted for the general rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School Hotoro South, Nassarawa LGA at the cost of N179,611,591.64. Similarly, Council approved N395,682,251.00 for additional works, fencing and renovation of existing structures at Government Secondary School Badau and Government Girls Secondary School Badau in Bagwai Local Government Area.

In order to ensure continuous feeding of boarding students, Council approved N1,543,019,496.48 for the settlement of funds to boarding schools suppliers covering a six-week period from the 12th to 14th weeks of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session and the 1st to 3rd weeks of the ongoing second term.

The Council also approved N236,198,174.08 for the settlement of outstanding payments for eggs and chickens supplied to boarding schools across the State. In further support of learning in public schools, the Council approved N264,000,000.00 for the purchase of textbooks to be distributed to students across the 44 Local Government Areas.

Ministry of Works and Infrastructure:

The Council approved several infrastructure projects aimed at improving road networks and public facilities across the State under the Ministry of Works, approval was granted for general renovation and completion works at the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters, Kofar Nassarawa at the cost of N241,302,554.21.

The Council also approved N81,093,284.57 for the completion of Alhaji Muhammad Yaro Sale Sarkin Noman Nassarawa Juma’at Mosque at Ladanai Kantudu, Hotoron Arewa in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

Similarly, N122,077,885.53 was approved for additional works on the ongoing renovation of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital located at Kofar Kudu near the Emir’s Palace. Council further approved N119,952,625.22 for the maintenance of Rimin Auzinawa Road in Ungogo Local Government Area.

The construction of Ladanai Road Network also received approval with the sum of N184,350,183.48. In addition, N13,200,000,000.00 was approved for the implementation of the 2026 Constituency Projects across the State. Council equally approved N483,608,773.80 for additional works on the ongoing renovation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

Ministry Rural and Community Development:

Under the Ministry for Rural and Community Development, the Council approved several road projects aimed at improving rural connectivity. Council approved N120,083,280.31 for the construction of a 4KM road with 2-coat surface dressing, culverts and drainage linking Masku–Andawa–Yafata in Gezawa Local Government Area.

The Council also approved N1,068,848,712.16 for the construction of feeder roads in Bichi, Dambatta, Garko and Takai Local Government Areas. Additionally, N368,229,186.63 was approved for the construction of a 4KM 2-coat surface dressing road with two cross culverts from Tumbau to Musku in Gezawa Local Government Area. Council further approved N1,500,000,000.00 for the implementation of the 2026 Special Intervention Projects across the State.

Ministry of Water Resources:

The Council approved N608,394,370.49 for the settlement of electricity bills owed to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) in respect of the State’s five major water treatment plants for the months of November and December 2025. In addition, N110,494,031.74 was approved for the renovation of Dadin Kowa Juma’at Mosque in Doguwa Local Government Area.

Ministry of Health:

In order to strengthen healthcare services in the State, the Council approved N89,710,080.00 for the procurement of four dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre. Council also approved N165,637,550.00 for the procurement of dental equipment and materials for basic healthcare services (Phase II).

Ministry of Land and Physical Planning:

The Council approved N1,700,000,000.00 for the payment of compensation to the remaining 724 households affected by the proposed 330KVA transmission line project being implemented by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). Similarly, approval was granted for N311,384,502.00 as compensation for properties affected by the construction of Kano Line Road off Zaria Road at Naibawa in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Ministry of Environment:

Council approved N401,166,223.88 for the construction of reinforced concrete drainage at Kurna Asabe Filin Durumi in Dala Local Government Area. Additionally, N210,000,000.00 was approved for the production of 10 million seedlings for the 2026 Annual Tree Planting Campaign.

Ministry of Power:

The Council approved N299,720,032.88 for the extension of a 33KV High Tension line along Bunkure Road to Kano Expressway.

Ministry of Religious Affairs:

In recognition of the importance of social support during the holy month, the Council approved N1,343,688,000.00 for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme.

Ministry of Livestock Development:

Council approved N171,250,000.00 for a Youth Empowerment Programme on Small Feeds Milling to enhance livestock production and create employment opportunities for young people.

Ministry of Housing Development:

In order to address housing deficits and improve urban development, the Council approved N113,193,271,436.44 for the construction of a Mass Housing Scheme compraising 480 houses at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan tagged “Gida Gida Mega City.”

Council also approved N1,004,342,689.86 for the establishment of an Emergency Operations Management Centre at the Kano State Government House.
