Kano State Government has explained the reason for the delay in the payment of civil servants’ April 2022 salaries.

Kano State Government has explained the reason for the delay in the payment of civil servants’ April 2022 salaries.

The government had equally debunked allegation that the development was caused by government’s negligence of workers’ welfare. The salary delay raised concerns, as civil servants lamented their inability to meet financial obligations as they joined other Muslims to celebrate Sallah.

But the Head of Service (HoS), Alh. Usman Bala, explained that government could not have deliberately delayed workers’ salaries if circumstances were not beyond its control.

Usman, who confirmed the development in an interview with The Guardian, attributed the delay to the late disbursement of federal allocation to states.

He added that even as the allocation was disbursed, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) could not credit the state government’s account before the Sallah holiday.

Although, the state government reportedly generated over N5 billion from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Usman stressed that the revenue could not meet the over N10 billion monthly wage bill.

The government has placed all financial institutions on alert to ensure instant payment as soon as the state receives cash backing, he stressed.
