Kano gov moves attorney general to transport ministry in cabinet reshuffle

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has redeployed the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi to Ministry of Transport.

In a sudden minor cabinet shake up directed Monday evening, Dederi is expected to occupy the ministry as substantive Commissioner of transport.

The ministry remained vacant after the former Commissioner Ibrahim Ali Namadi resigned from the cabinet over his alleged involvement in drug related matters.

Although, the seat of Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is presently left vacant, a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, said the minor reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery across key ministries.

According to the governor’s directive, “the Attorny General and Honourable Commissioner of Justice Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi has been redeployed to the Ministry of Transport.

“The Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the ministry Barr. Mustapha Nuruddeen Muhammad has been moved to the Ministry of Environment to serve as Permanent Secretary.

“The Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, who has been serving in acting capacity at the Ministry of Transport is to return to his substantive Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs,” the statement read.

Dawakin-Tofa release stressed that Governor Yusuf has directed that all officials affected by the reassignments are to formally hand over the affairs of their offices to the most senior official of the ministry.

Essentially, the Governor mandated “the handing over and taking over exercise is to be completed immediately, with effect from tomorrow Tuesday, September 23, 2025 before close of business”.

While reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, efficiency, and purposeful leadership, Governor Yusuf further explained that the redeployment is intended to maximize capacity, align responsibilities and ensure that government delivers effective results on its mandate to the people of Kano State.

Governor Yusuf also urged government officials to give maximum cooperation to the newly redeployed Commissioner to discharge his responsibility.
