Kano introduces digital public procurement platform to strengthen transparency

Kano State government has unveiled the operations of Digital Public Procurement Platform, an initiative designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in public procurement processes.

Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji disclosed this during a monthly briefing on project execution monitoring in Kano.

Ma’aji disclosed that the electronic procurement platform, accessible through the state’s official procurement portal, had gone live, marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to institutionalise transparent and traceable procurement procedures.

The Commissioner asserted that the platform would enhance procurement planning, documentation, audit trails and fair access to contract opportunities, while reducing administrative bottlenecks and promoting value for money.

According to him, the reform aligns with the objectives of the Kano State Public Procurement Law, 2021, and would initially be implemented across 10 pilot Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“The success of this initiative will largely depend on effective adoption across the 10 pilot MDAs, sustained capacity development and consistent regulatory compliance,” the ministry stated.

He disclosed that government is strengthening project oversight through the Kano State Integrated Project Monitoring System, a digital innovation designed to improve project documentation, geospatial tracking and reporting.

Meanwhile, the government disclosed that 80 out of 106 projects valued at N48.91 billion have attained 100 per cent completion across six local government areas of the state.

He said the completed projects represent 75.5 per cent of the total projects monitored during its September 2026 routine monitoring and evaluation exercise.

According to Ma’aji the projects spread across Kabo, Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, Shanono, Gwarzo and Bagwai Local Government Areas, cover critical infrastructure, including roads, educational facilities, healthcare centres, solar-powered streetlights, drainage systems, water supply and security facilities.

The Commissioner said beyond the award of contracts, the ministry observed quality, functionality, sustainability and measurable benefits of the projects to communities.

The ministry, however, acknowledged that some projects were experiencing delays and other implementation challenges, assuring that appropriate measures would be taken to ensure compliance with approved specifications and contractual obligations.
