Kano, Lagos varsities declare full compliance
The Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil chapters of ASUU have declared total compliance to the directive from the national body.
However, while BUK employees are to ensure full compliance from tomorrow after congress meeting, their counterparts at KUST directed members to down tools with immediate effect.
BUK branch chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Barde, decried government’s disposition to the 2009 pact.
His KUST counterpart, Dr. Mudi Lawal Yahaya, lamented non-payment of salaries and allowances of academic staff to allow for research and other developmental endeavours.
Also, the Lagos State University (LASU) chapter of the union has indicated willingness to fully comply with the indefinite strike, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt yesterday.
The chapter chairman, Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi, told NAN in Lagos that the chapter received the information on the strike rather late.
Oyewunmi said the executive members of the chapter would meet later, while a congress would be summoned for tomorrow, to officially declare the strike in the university.
“The strike has begun as directed by the ASUU national body because it is not optional, but we just want to tidy up one or two things before complying fully.
“Be assured that by Wednesday after our congress, the chapter will comply 100 per cent as directed and it will be total, comprehensive and indefinite,’’ he said.
