The member representing Tudun Wada Constituency at the Kano State House of Assembly, Sule Lawan Shuwaki, has resigned his membership from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shuwaki, whose resignation letter was brought before the plenary on Monday by Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore disclosed his defection to opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the letter, the lawmaker revealed his decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultation” with his political associates, supporters and family members.

He expressed appreciation to the APC leadership at the ward, local government, state and national levels for the opportunities and support he received during his membership of the party.

Shuwaki, however, said he had decided to pursue a new political direction based on his personal convictions. However, Shuwaki who failed to secure a retuning ticket back to assembly may have decided to seek alternative option.

He said although he had moved to the PDP several months ago, cited political consultations had incidentally delayed the formal presentation of his resignation letter to the Assembly.

“I brought this letter to present it before the Assembly regarding my movement from the APC to the PDP,” he said.

He also urged members of the public to continue to uphold unity and goodwill despite political differences.

Falgore explained that the Assembly leadership had continued consultations with the lawmaker in an attempt to ascertain whether he would proceed with his decision.

He said Shuwaki had remained firm in his decision to leave the APC, prompting the formal presentation of the letter during the Monday plenary.

Following the current defection, members of the APC in the house have reduced to 37, two New Nigeria People’s Party(NNPP) members and one PDP member, making up the 40 house Assembly Members in the state.
