Kano suspends three principals, six teachers in public schools

Kano State government has ordered the immediate suspension of three principals of public secondary schools for dereliction of duty.

Those suspended are principals of Government Girls Secondary School, (G.G.S.S), Dawanau; Government Girls Secondary School, (G.G.S.S), Kwa and Government Arabic Secondary School (G.A.S.S), Dawanau, all in Dawakin Tofa local government area. The State Commissioner for education, Alh. Umar Haruna Doguwa issued the suspension during an unscheduled visit to the schools Friday morning.

Subsequently, the Commissioner directed immediate posting of new and competent principals to the vacant positions, to ensure smooth academic activities are not disrupted.

Doguwa further instructed issuance of query to four teachers at GGSS Kwa and two at GASS Dawanau for offenses related to truancy. The commissioner who was furious by the absence of the heads at their various duty posts as at the time of visit, expressed disappointment over what he considered nonchalant attitude to entrusted responsibilities.

The commissioner, in a statement signed by Director Public Enlightenment at the ministry Aminu Yassar, further checks on the conducts of the three senior officers indicated that the concern persons had record of routine abscond from duty especially on Fridays.

“This administration will not condone truancy, lateness or any form of official misconduct, therefore, these principals are suspended forthwith. The action of these principals and teachers depicts unseriousness.

We are a serious government and we will not allow uncommitted people to ruin our plans for education”, he warned.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner has directed that the the Principal of G.G.S.S. Harbau, Tsanyawa local government, be rewarded for her diligence.
