Katsina State government has presented before a negotiating team a tabulated proposal of what it hopes to pay as new wage for its workforce.

Katsina State government has presented before a negotiating team a tabulated proposal of what it hopes to pay as new wage for its workforce.

The proposal was presented by state Joint Committee for the Implementation of New Minimum Wage to the state Joint Public Service Negotiation Council at the Muhammadu Buhari Government House chambers.

Though details of the proposal were not made public at press time, it was, however, gathered that the tabulation might yet fall short of the expectations of the negotiating council, and by extension the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in the state.

It was learnt that the committee members tabulated the proposal considering the state’s limited resources.

Speaking shortly before presenting the proposal, the joint committee chairman, Mustapha Inuwa, called on the negotiation council to bear in mind that a rise in salaries automatically meant rise in pension and gratuity bills.

According to Inuwa, the upward push in salary figures of the state and councils also has direct effect on the two tiers of government’s capacity to employ more fresh hands in critical areas.

The chairman, who is Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said the problem of resource constraint should be put into consideration to keep unemployment from burgeoning beyond manageable dimension.
