Kefas, Fintiri push for intelligence driven operations in North-East

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, and his Adamawa State counterpart, Ahmadu Fintiri, after a high level security meeting with the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa (Rtd), at the Federal Ministry of Defence Headquarters

In what observers describe as a bold and coordinated response to resurging insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East, the governor of Taraba State, Dr.Agbu Kefas, and the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, last week held a high level security meeting with the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), at the Federal Ministry of Defence Headquarters.

Joining the strategic engagement was elder statesman and former Defence Minister, Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, whose presence underscored the gravity of the unfolding security concerns across the region.

The meeting, as noted by The Guardian, comes against the backdrop of renewed insurgent activities and isolated security breaches reported in parts of Adamawa and contiguous communities in Taraba State. The developments have heightened fears of cross border infiltration and evolving asymmetric threats capable of destabilising vulnerable rural settlements.

Sources familiar with the closed door deliberations revealed that discussions centred on recalibrating ongoing counter insurgency operations and reinforcing forward deployment strategies in identified flashpoints.
Intelligence, Assets, and Operational Gaps.

Top on the agenda, according to insiders, was the urgent need to deepen inter agency intelligence coordination and fast track the mobilisation of additional military assets to communities considered at risk.

The session, as gathered by The Guardian, further reviewed operational gaps and examined community based security dynamics requiring swift federal intervention, a move analysts say signals a shift toward more proactive, intelligence driven field operations.

Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the territorial integrity of Taraba State and protecting its citizens. He stressed that sub national governments must work in close synergy with federal defence authorities to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace.

Governor Fintiri echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the importance of sustaining operational momentum and maintaining field dominance to neutralise emerging threats before they escalate into widespread instability.

Security experts noted that the convergence of federal authorities, state executives, and respected national figures such as General Danjuma reflects a unified political and security front aimed at restoring confidence and stabilising affected communities.

As security agencies recalibrate their strategies, residents across Adamawa and Taraba states await concrete outcomes from what many describe as a decisive step toward consolidating peace in Nigeria’s North-East.
