Kenyan athlete Edwin Kibet Koech has emerged victorious in the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, securing his second win after triumphing in the 2023 edition.

Kibet dominated the men’s category, completing the 42-kilometre race in 2 hours and 14 minutes. His performance earned him the $50,000 top prize.

Access Bank made the announcement on its ‘X’ page, when the Kenyan crossed the finish line.

The annual marathon, now in its tenth edition, drew around 37,000 participants competing in both the 42km and 10km races.

General Manager of the event, former Nigerian long jumper Yusuf Ali, noted that the turnout was based on the number of running kits distributed, despite over 60,000 registrants.

“The enthusiasm for this race continues to grow every year. While we had over 60,000 registered runners, around 37,000 actively participated,” Ali stated.

The full marathon kicked off at 6:30 am from the National Stadium in Surulere, while the 10km race began later at 9:30 am from Grace Garden Event Centre in Lekki. Both races concluded at Eko Atlantic City.

Lagos State governor, Sanwo-Olu also took part in the race, alongside, many other celebrities.

To facilitate the event, the Lagos State Government implemented an eight-hour road closure and traffic diversions on key routes from 5 am to 1 pm.
