Friends and family of Osasu Ogbeide, who was diagnosed with kidney failure, are seeking for N9.09 million to help save the life of the single father of three.

Documents from Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja, where he was referred to, showed that Ogbeide needs N9.09 million for kidney transplant.

The Centre in the document said the amount includes; N1, 060 million for the cost of screening, cross match and Donor-Specific Alloantibody (DSA) (recipient and donor), N7. 3million for kidney transplant, while Plasmapheresis with Immunoglobulin will cost N730, 000.00.

Plasmaphereis is only done if the outcome of Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) & DSA is positive and the level of antibodies would determine amount of sessions.

Friday Ogiamien, who has been friends with Ogbeide for more than 25 years since they both graduated from college, described him as the most cheerful and lively individual, also the best friend any person can ever wish for.

He said: “Many years after graduation, Ogbeide lived a happy life with his family and three adorable children, until March of 2020, when he became very ill and he was rushed to the hospital and the doctor discovered that Ogbeide had chronic kidney disease due to renal failure.

Confirming his case on phone, Dr. Lucky Onaghife of St. Vincent de Pores Medical Centre, Benin City, Edo State, told The Guardian yesterday that he has been attending to Ogbeide in the past eleven months where he is undergoing dialysis.

He said: “He is a chronic disease patient and I am the doctor where he’s undergoing treatment.

“He goes to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for treatment. He also comes to St. Vincent de Pores Medical Centre for Chemo dialysis inspection.

“He was admitted at Zenith in Abuja for the purpose of a kidney transplant, but requires money to do so.”
