Kogi State chairman of the Social Democratic party (SDP), Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, has assured of his party’s victory in the November governorship ballot.

He told The Guardian in Lokoja yesterday that with Natasha Akpoti as the candidate, the party was set to take over Lugard House.

The chairman also commended delegates of the party for picking the barrister in the Thursday primary of the party, describing the peaceful conduct of the primary as an indication of better things to come.

Akpoti was returned unopposed by SDP delegates in Lokoja on Thursday, getting the votes of 751 of the 853 accredited voters, while 11 votes were declared invalid.

The primary was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the 21 councils of the state.

The returning officer, Ben Ogbonna, while declaring Akpoti as the elected governorship candidate of the party for the November ballot, thanked the delegates for their peaceful conduct and urged them to work in the same spirit in the November general election.

In her post-election speech, Akpoti pledged to turn around the fortunes of the state positively, adding that she was moved to salvage the people from poverty.

She thanked the delegates for finding her worthy to offer quality leadership in the state, describing her emergence as a new era towards making healthcare delivery a priority.
