The lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Kola Balogun, yesterday formally announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Balogun, the younger brother of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who had initially expressed displeasure over the manner Governor Seyi Makinde withdrew the South senatorial ticket from him and handed it over to Joseph Tegbe, who recently defected from APC to PDP, confirmed his defection to a journalist, saying: “It is true. Yes, it is confirmed. I have joined APC.”

MEANWHILE, the lawmaker representing Oyo Central on the APC platform, Senator Teslim Folarin, who spoke through his aide, Yekini Shakirudeen Olaniyi, said Balogun’s love for APC was a welcome development as it would swell the ranks of the party and appropriately position it to defeat PDP next year.

RELATEDLY, as the political race inches forward with only a few weeks to the APC primaries, an aspirant in Ogun State, Olatorera Majekodunmi-Oniru, who is running for the Senate to represent Ogun Central District, yesterday, presented her nomination form to leaders in the district.

The female aspirant expressed optimism to win the party’s ticket, considering the Executive Order signed by Governor Dapo Abiodun in April 2022 mandating a minimum 35 per cent women representation in government and politics in Ogun State.
