Members of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday offered prayers for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The prayers were offered during the maiden Ramadan lecture at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road, Ogba, Lagos.
In his welcome address, the state party chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said that despite being a Christian, he cherishes the Islamic month of Ramadan, which usually promotes peace and good conduct across the world.
Ojelabi also charged Muslims across Nigeria to pray for President Tinubu whose birthday falls within Ramadan.
The first guest lecturer, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ade Lawal, spoke on patience and perseverance. He emphasised the need to be patient at this critical time of our nation as the situation has a global dimension.
Lawal also reminded the Muslims that Allah has made it clear in the Qur’an that after the storm comes everlasting peace and only the patient ones will enjoy the blessing of Allah.
The second lecturer, Dr. Saheed Timehin, a lecturer at the Department of Foreign Language, Lagos State University, also educated the Muslims on the burden of leadership and the Islamic perspective.
He explained that leadership and followership were interwoven and both have specific roles to play to attain certain results.
“Every leader must be able to make critical decisions that will change the future of people and oftentimes, such decisions are usually not welcoming from the beginning but at the end, the people will understand the reason for such actions,” he said.
In his goodwill message, the National Chairman of APC and former Governor of Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, who was represented by the Southwest Organising Secretary of the party, Dr. Lateef Ibirogba, urged Nigerians to continue to support the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.
The chairman of the Ramadan Lecture Committee, Moshood Mayegun, in his vote of thanks, appreciated everyone present at the event, urging Muslims across Nigeria to pray for President Tinubu and the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
