
Lagos State Government has commissioned news projects in 15 schools aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state. Chairman of the state’s Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools in Lagos State (SCRPS), Mr. Hakeem Smith said the commissioned infrastructure drawn from six education districts in the state, are in Lagos State Junior Model College Meiran Alimisho , Lagos State Baptist Secondary School, Orile-Agege, Abesan Senior High School , Orisunbare Senior High School, Luwasa Senior High School, Ijede , Lagos State Girls Junior Model College Agunfoye, Ojota Junior Secondary School, Ojota , Eva Adelaja Junior Secondary School, Bariga and Muslim Junior College Oworoshoki.
Others are: Lagos State Model College, Badore , Lagos State Model College, Agbowa Epe. Araromi Ilogbo Junior Secondary School, Oko-afo, Badagry Junior Grammar School, Badagry , Ajumoni Junior Grammar School, Daleko Mushin and St. Joseph Secondary School, Mushin. He said the commissioning, done virtually last week, became necessary to enable children have access to their classrooms and hostels.
According to him, a total of 150 classrooms and 1,386 bed hostels were commissioned by governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with commitment to tackle the challenges of out-of-school children.
Smith said: “Since the inauguration of SCRPS, we have been able to start and complete several new building projects (classrooms, hostels, security infrastructure like fencing and gate-houses, and so on), and supplied new furniture for students and teachers. We have also successfully embarked on several rehabilitation projects.
“In addition, very importantly, we have completed and commissioned a fully-IT-driven school at Vetland Junior, with three interactive digital screens and student tablets, to facilitate learning in and out of school.
“SCRPS has constructed about 1,047 new classrooms across all six Education Districts, covering the 20 Local Councils of the state, while 197 schools were rehabilitated.
“The committee has intervened on security improvements, school perimeter fences and emergency alarm systems, as well as erected 1, 584 new hostels, comprising male and female hostels in our model colleges.
“We have provided 181, 365 school furniture in primary and secondary schools with iconic projects erected in Elemoro Community Grammar school, Vetland Junior Grammar School and Ogombo Community junior High school, within three years of SCRPS’ inauguration.”
