A Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, yesterday, remanded a 29-year-old man, Lateef Isah, for allegedly shooting one Temitayo Obifemi to death.
The suspect was brought to the court by the Police on a six-count charge bordering on murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder and willful damage.
His plea was not taken pending the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advice on the matter before Magistrate Lateef Owolabi.
The prosecutor, Inspector Josephine Ikhayere, at the proceeding told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 26 and April 23 about 1:00 p.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively, at Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos State.
The offence is contrary to Section 222(1)(a)(b) and punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Part of the charge read, “That you Lateef Isah and others at large, did unlawfully and intentionally killed one Temitayo Obifemi by shooting him with a gun, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222(1)(a)(b) and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The prosecutor alleged the defendant also destroyed the front and back windscreens and side glasses of a Mitsubishi Space Wagon with registration number KRD 334 FM.
Ikhayere told the court that the damaged vehicle was worth N3.5 million, and belonged to one Mr Shamsudeen Abdul-Sajam.
He added that the defedant harmed one Tajudeen Oyinloye, by stabbing him multiple times with a knife.
Ikhayere therefore prayed the court to remand the defendant pending advice from DPP.
The defendant’s counsel, Mrs. Christiana Afokaranmi, did not oppose the remand application.
Magistrate Owolabi, subsequently, adjourned the matter to November 4 for mention.
