Lagos State Government has declared zero tolerance for maternal, neo-natal and child deaths in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who stated this while speaking on the second round of this year’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCH) holding November 25-29, 2019, said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had pledged not less than 15 per cent of the yearly budget to the Ministry of Health to ensure that Lagos residents enjoy the best healthcare when they visit public health facilities.

He said that the current administration had started implementing some strategies, including the elimination of environmental factors, sensitisation about adequate nutrition during pregnancy, immunisation and other complementary services to reduce cases of maternal and child deaths.

The commissioner said the wife of the state governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, would be leading the health team to kick-start awareness on the week-long activities marking the maternal, newborn and child health week tomorrow in Lagos Island.
