Lagos judiciary to review civil procedure rules
Lagos State judiciary has concluded plans to review its Civil Procedure Rules 2012, to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.
The chief judge, Justice Opeyemi Oke, at a summit yesterday in Lagos to review the 2012 Civil Procedure Rules, said that with the review, it would no longer be business-as-usual for lawyers who delay trial.
She said that the new rules would impose strict sanctions on lawyers and block those hindrances that had been delaying justice delivery.
“If possible, I would love to see a situation where a lawyer loses his practising licence for delaying justice, as it is done in Singapore.
“We need to take firmer position, particularly on adjournments. In Singapore, adjournment is only allowed on matter of life and death,” she said.
