A man, yesterday, escaped death by whiskers as his Hilux van rammed into a stationary lorry in Sandfill Bus Stop, opposite Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Guardian learnt that the accident occurred at about 7:50a.m. when the lorry stopped by the traffic light. Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, who confirmed the incident said the driver of the Hilux was successfully rescued without fracture and handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for treatment.

He said: “Drivers must be very careful and be mindful of road signs. They should also be mindful of the infraction they might encounter while driving. We have removed accidental vehicles from the road to ensure free flow of traffic.”

MEANWHILE, the Police in Lagos have denied casualty in Wednesday’s mayhem between factions of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Iyana-Iba area of the state.

The Guardian learnt that two people were killed in the battle of supremacy over who controls a new park created at Iyana-Iba.

A trending video on social media showed police officers watching and doing nothing as the hoodlums clashed with dangerous weapons.

But, spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, told The Guardian, yesterday, that there was no casualty in the clash.

Hundeyin said the policeman captured in the trending video could not do anything because he would be accused if he had used his gun in that incident.

He said: “There was a clash between factions of RTEAN and we deployed a team there. The situation was brought under control and normalcy was restored in the area. No arrest has been made so far and there is no fatality.
“ One person, who was injured, was taken to the hospital and he’s responding to treatment. Efforts are on to identify the masterminds and get them arrested.”
