The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State says it shares in the plight of Muslim faithful over the high cost of foods and other items for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Also, the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor congratulated Muslims faithful and Lagosians in general on the festivity.
While wishing the Muslims Eid AL-Adha Mubarak, the PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, urged the Islamic faithful to pray for God’s intervention in the nation’s economy.
According to Amode, the party is worried that the exorbitant prices of goods and commodities to mark the festival would affect many homes and families.
“The party commiserates with the people on the deteriorating conditions of living due to high cost of foods and other household items, which we believe had negative effects on the celebration of this year’s Eid Al-Adha.
“Our party sympathises with our Muslim families who are unable to afford the exorbitant price of sacrificial ram, which remains the symbol for this celebration,” he added.
Amode urged every Muslim to celebrate the occasion with great care, faith in God, in love and the tenets of the sacrifice.
On his part, Adediran, in a message signed by Head, Media and Communications, Jandor ’23 Campaign Organisation, Gbenga Ogunleye, stressed that the essence of the celebration is in remembrance of the sacrificial and obedient lifestyle of Prophet Ibrahim (ASW) and his son, Prophet Ismail (ASW).
“This virtue is exactly what we need now in Lagos State to surmount our challenges. We must tell ourselves that the quagmire we face today in virtually all aspects of our daily life is a result of the selfishness, greed and corruption of our leaders and the mismanagement of the state…”
