Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Lagos State, yesterday, staged a ‘Solidarity Walk’ in support of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, on February 25 and March 11 general elections.

The pensioners, who started the walk at the NUP Secretariat, Alausa, and ended it at the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) Headquarters in Alausa, expressed appreciation for the vision Tinubu brought to Lagos, and want it replicated at the national level.

At the occasion, the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, thanked the pensioners for sacrificing their time for the support of Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

“I am really thankful that you were able to leave your homes early in the morning and come out here together to support our party, APC, for the presidency and Lagos governorship elections. I am so grateful because this is very special, especially when our elders come out to support our candidates. I know there are special blessings attached to that kind of support.

“I can proudly and confidently say that this is the first time that pensioners will come together to show support for a state governor. That tells you a lot about what the governor has done in the last three years,” she said.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Folashade Jaji, thanked the pensioners for their determination to ensure that Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu are elected at the coming elections.

“To our dear senior citizens, we are really delighted to have you here. You could easily have stayed away, but you took it upon yourselves to be here. We thank God for his grace over your lives because to have worked and then retired and then still be active is not your doing; it is the grace of God. I pray that you will continue to enjoy that grace,” she stated.
