Lagos task force arrests 88 suspected miscreants, Army pledges support


The Lagos State Task Force has arrested 88 suspected miscreants and criminals in two operations to improve security in the state. The operation, conducted between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, focused on Oshodi, Bolade, and surrounding areas.

The action followed numerous complaints from motorists, residents, and passers-by about increased criminal activity, especially during rush hour. Reports highlighted hoodlums harassing people and creating an unsafe environment.

Task Force Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele stressed the agency’s commitment to safety, stating, “We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage. The State Government is dedicated to protecting life and property.” He reassured the public that these efforts will continue.

The operation received positive feedback from witnesses at Oshodi Oke Bridge, who expressed relief at the crackdown.Initial surveillance revealed that miscreants used pedestrian bridges at Oshodi Bus Stop to identify and target victims.

Akerele assured the public that these activities would soon be eliminated. He encouraged people to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.

He promised that the Task Force would maintain high alert and conduct further operations to ensure safety and added that all suspects would face prosecution. In a related development, the Nigerian Army has pledged continued collaboration with the Lagos Task Force to enhance security.

Brigadier General Olawale Matthew Oyekola, Commander of the 9th Brigade, visited the Task Force headquarters to discuss strengthening inter-agency cooperation.

The meeting focused on shared goals of safety and security. Brigadier General Oyekola praised CSP Akerele for recent successes in improving road safety and security in Lagos.

He affirmed the Army’s readiness to provide support if needed and promised ongoing collaboration. CSP Akerele expressed gratitude for the Army’s support and reiterated the Task Force’s dedication to maintaining a safe environment.

He also committed to strengthening partnerships with other relevant agencies. Both emphasised the importance of close ties between the military and law enforcement to create a safer city.
