Lalong seeks FG’s support for Plateau IDPs

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, yesterday in Abuja, pleaded with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to assist the state in rehabilitating and reintegrating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as they return to their ancestral homes.

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) chairman made the request when he visited the minister, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk, at the ministry’s headquarters at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

He disclosed that since the symbolic closure of all IDP camps in Plateau in December 2019, his administration had been doing its best to rebuild their homes and give them life anew.

While noting that his government provided building materials to facilitate reconstruction of destroyed homesteads, Lalong stated: “We are committed to ensuring that the peace we have restored to Plateau is consolidated.”
