Lalong tasks Plateau people on terrorism, insurgency

Gov. Simon Lalong

Governor Simon Lalong has called on Plateau people to unite in combating the insurgency and attacks the state currently experiences.

He made the call at the investiture of Chief Elvis Chibiko Chukwu as governor of District 9125 of Rotary International in Jos.

Congratulating the Rotarian for securing the confidence of members in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to emerge the club’s 10th governor, Lalong commended Rotary for reaching out and touching lives beyond the confines of religions and ethnicity. The action, he added, was a testimony of the organisation’s submission to the authority of the God.

Admitting that Nigeria was witnessing at the moment multi-faceted security challenges, the governor, however, noted that the state and the entire nation could only overcome these trying times through concerted efforts of the citizens.

He counselled Nigerians to tow the path of dialogue in tackling the problem at hand.

Lalong noted that the prevailing insecurity in the land, which has been garbed in ethnic, religious, political and economic interests of a few, could be better handled collaboratively, adding: “We will come out stronger and better for it.”

According to the governor, “we are better together because God did not make a mistake creating and locating us individually and collectively where we are.”

In his inaugural address, Chukwu appreciated stakeholders for giving him an opportunity to serve, pledging not to disappoint them. He urged club members to join hands in providing selfless services to the people, adding that he would look at the areas that government has not touched particularly in the rural areas.

Chukwu called for support from stakeholders to make his tenure a success.

His successor, Mbenafor Nwoka, said the district had commissioned more than 400 projects during his tenure, thanking members for their tremendous support.
