LAMATA restates commitment to seamless, efficient public transportation in Lagos
In line with the vision of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Abimbola Akinajo, has disclosed that the state is working round the clock to ensure public transportation becomes a major priority for Lagos residents.
Speaking shortly after inspecting the Marina Train Station and the Mile 2 transport interchange hub, she disclosed the state government is changing public transportation narratives by integrating various transportation modes.
To her, the hubs are vital to the Lagos Strategic Transport Master-plan (STMP), designed to create seamless network that connects road, rail, water, and non-motorised transport. She said the hubs would serve as key transfer points, enabling smooth transitions for commuters.
Akinajo said: “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to make public transportation the preferred mode of commuting for Lagosians. The transit interchanges at Marina and Mile 2 are integral to this vision, serving as crucial hubs that will seamlessly connect all modes of transportation – Road, Rail, Water and Non-motorised transport. ”
She revealed that the Mile 2 interchange would be completed in the next 12 to 13 months.
“The 13-kilometre Mile 2 to Marina Lagos Blue Rail Line is a game changer for transportation in Lagos. For residents of Mile 2, FESTAC and Amuwo-Odofin environs, it’s a new way of commuting between the Ojo area and the Marina/CMS of the Lagos metropolis. The trip which lasts less than 20 minutes, is a combination of comfort and pleasure,” she said.
