The Director-General, Lagos State Public Service Development Centre (PSSDC), Dr. Senukon Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison, has stated that to be truly transformational and sustainable, leadership must have clear ideological basis for development.

He said this at the maiden edition of Lagos State PSSDC’s Leadership for Good Governance series in Lagos. Ajose-Harrison said: “Our world today is undergoing leadership crisis. This has made experts in both the academia and industry to re-examine the need for appropriate and right leadership actions to address good governance and ensure that sustainable and stable societies and organisations evolve and become going concerns. The need for strong and progressive leadership led the management of the centre to moot the idea of a leadership programme.

“It is against this backdrop that the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre is organising its maiden ‘Leadership for good governance series, anchored by the Leadership Studies Department.” He said an ideal leader is expected to exhibit such traits as intelligence, toughness, determination, vision, strategy and ethics. It is our strong belief that value which drives positive change in our nation will be added to us in this programme.”

The Chairman of the lecture, Prince Lekan Fadina, said a leader is key in development, and that youths are Nigeria’s future and the country must take deliberate steps to equip them by investing hugely in their education. Fadina wants Nigerian youths’ capacity developed to lead the continent.

“A leader can make or break a team. Leaders are people who, through inspiration and personality, drive other people toward a common goal/mission. A leader is someone who can consistently think about the future and keep moving the nation forward.

He needs to share his vision on how to progress, even through tough times. He must have a clear vision and be inspirational. A good leader cannot go unnoticed,” he said.
