LG system fast collapsing, says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has faulted the local government system in the country, saying it may have “collapsed completely.”
He made the submission in a graduation lecture entitled, “Repositioning the Nigerian Economy for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Prospects,” which he delivered yesterday at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) in Abuja.
The lecture signalled the completion of a 10-month programme for 66 Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 14) participants, drawn from Nigeria, The Gambia, Ghana and Liberia.
According to Jonathan, the weakness of the third tier of government has not helped the security situation confronting the nation in view of its closeness to the people.
While establishing a nexus between security and economic growth, the ex-leader urged the Federal Government to boost investors’ confidence by putting in place a conducive environment.
