Lion (Dame) Judith Yewande Akapo has decried the scourge of paediatric cancer and diabetes among children in the country. She said this during her investiture as the President, Ikeja Viva L’amour Lions Club, Lions Club International, District 404-B2 Nigeria, and installation of other club officers, which took place at Ostra Halls and Hotels, CBD Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Akapo said the unfortunate incident of cancer among children has led to her embarking on advocacy for treatment and surgery for four children with diagnosed cancer as part of her projects during her service year.

She also noted that her passion to stem down diabetes among school pupils and adults inspired her to engage in advocacy, awareness, screening and treatment for 3000 school pupils as well as 5000 adults during the year of her service.

She disclosed other projects to include carrying out free eye screening, treatment, donation of free eyeglasses and eye surgery.

On youth empowerment, which Akapo said was very crucial, she disclosed that she would organise career development talks for over 3000 youths and skill development for 4,000 youths to enable them to be self-sufficient and self-reliant.

To deal with the problem of hunger among the less privileged, Akapo said she would be providing food and foods stuff to the hungry at Agege, Ikeja, and Maryland areas of Lagos six times during her tenure as well as donation of food stuff and drugs to the lepers colony in Lagos.

She promised to make additional donation to Lagos State-owned schools for the speech impaired, sight impaired, hearing impaired and autistic children, and widows.

She noted that on environment, she would embark on preservation and beautification of schools, public places and police college, Ikeja, towards making the world a better place.
