Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that it currently has no functioning organs at either the state or national level, operating instead under the supervision of a National Caretaker Committee as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

The party disclosed this at a press conference to unveil its new online registration portal, a move aimed at enabling Nigerians at home and abroad to register as bona fide members without physically visiting party offices.

At the conference, a Board of Trustees member and veteran trade unionist, Lawson Osagie, addressed concerns over alleged factions or disputes within the party.

He clarified that claims of rival structures at the state or national level were misplaced and unfounded.

The launch of the e-registration portal aims to modernise party operations and ensure inclusivity. Nigerians, whether in the country or abroad, can now register, select their home states, and download their membership cards. The process is free of charge, and the party has warned supporters against any website or platform demanding payment for registration, describing such offers as fraudulent.

The National Chair, Nenadi Usman, emphasised that the e-registration initiative was part of the Labour Party’s broader commitment to strengthening grassroots participation and building a credible, participatory membership base.

She said the portal would allow the party to compile an accurate, verifiable membership list for use in internal party activities and preparations for the 2027 elections, stressing.

“The Labour Party belongs to all Nigerians who believe in social justice, equality, and empowerment.

By registering online, supporters can become part of a strong, credible opposition ready to contribute to national development,” she added.

The party also highlighted lessons from the 2023 elections, particularly the challenges posed by the lack of polling agents or verifiable paper trails in every polling unit. According to the party leadership, the absence of these structures limited their ability to present evidence in court.

The Labour Party has vowed not to repeat that mistake, ensuring that union affiliates and grassroots members are actively involved in all electoral processes, including fielding agents at every polling unit nationwide.

MEANWHILE, the Labour Party State Chairmen Forum has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanction Senator Nenadi Usman and her group.

The forum asked INEC to throw into the bin a memo purportedly written by the Caretaker Committee of the party seeking to hold a fresh congress from March 26, 2026.

In a statement, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, said the memo had not complied with the party’s constitution and other laws of the land.

The forum comprises all the party’s state chairmen elected in the Congresses held on December 6, 2025.

Ifoh restated that the party had earlier told Nigerians that Nenadi was never a member of the party, adding that her ignorance of the party constitution and the naivety displayed so far in all her correspondences with INEC provide justification.

The State Chairmen Forum urged INEC to consider designating an officer from the commission to run the Labour Party.
