The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Muhammad Adamu, has been killed by gunmen.

Adamu was attacked at his residence in Barkin Ladi Town just after breaking his fast on Wednesday around 7 p.m. and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. He later died in the hospital yesterday morning.

The State Chairman of the group, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, who confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday, said the deceased was attacked in his residence in Barkin Ladi Town soon after breaking his fast.

The state chairman condemned the incident in its entirety and called on the security agencies to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

A youth leader in the community, Alhaji Danjuma Ibrahim, who also confirmed the incident, said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital and was expected to be buried yesterday.

Danjuma, while condemning the incident, recalled that this was the third time the chairman had been targeted by gunmen, but they were unsuccessful until the latest attack.

He said, “The gunmen attacked him and shot him severely in the body. There are bullet wounds on the body. After they shot him, they fled the area. Security personnel, including police and soldiers, have responded because we were together with them at the hospital where he was rushed to.”

The youth leader described the attack on the MACBAN chairman as unfortunate, explaining that prior to his death, “he played a vital role in ensuring peace within the Barkin Ladi area. His demise will continue to linger in our memory because of his significance in sustaining peace in the community.”

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, has not responded to an inquiry by The Guardian.
