A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has said that the party is sure of victory despite the re-run elections declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, the technicalities deployed by the commission should be seen as part of the plan to allegedly rob the PDP of victory in the governorship election.

Makarfi, who commended the people for the orderly and peaceful manner they conducted themselves during the election, also praised the doggedness of the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and party supporters as well as other Nigerians over the “success of the party at the poll.”

In a statement by his spokesman, Mallam Mukthar Sirajo, Makarfi, who is a former PDP caretaker committee chairman, commended the national leadership of the party under Prince Uche Secondus for guiding PDP to the path of victory in the election.

“The long suffering people of Osun State, who have had to endure a harrowing more than seven years in the hands of the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, more than three of which were spent with either half salary or no salary by the workforce until the recent deceitful election-period bailout, have grown wiser and will rally round to ensure that such horrible experience is consigned to the dustbin of history by successfully completing the task they started on Saturday.”

Makarfi appealed to “the members and supporters of PDP in Osun State, especially in those areas where elections are to be repeated, to remain resolute and steadfast by coming out in larger numbers to inflict maximum damage on the party that has brought so much untold hardship to them in the course of these more than seven years.”

On the role of security operatives during the poll, he said: “Even though there is a lot more improvement needed, I commend the security agencies for being, for the large part, professional in their handling of the the election.

This is not to say that they were perfect; but at least the level of impunity and brazen partiality was relatively less than experienced in previous exercises”.
