The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State on Tuesday unveiled its newly completed state secretariat in Ibadan, in what party leaders described as a clear statement of unity, renewed discipline and strategic consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commissioning ceremony, held along Molete–Oke Ado Road, drew an array of senior party figures, including Governor Seyi Makinde, prominent governorship aspirant Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), members of the party’s National Working Committee, state executives, elders and party faithful from across Oyo State.
The new secretariat, donated by Governor Makinde, was widely described as a major institutional asset aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational base and reinforcing internal cohesion within the state chapter.
Speaking after the unveiling, Ambassador Ajadi described the development as a “symbolic rebirth” for the PDP in Oyo State, stressing that strong party institutions remain central to democratic stability and electoral success.
“This secretariat is far more than a physical structure,” Ajadi said. “It represents our collective commitment to unity, internal democracy and effective grassroots mobilisation. When a party is well organised and disciplined, it earns the confidence of the people and delivers better governance.”
He commended Governor Makinde for what he called pragmatic leadership that places party stability above personal considerations, adding that the new facility would reinvigorate party members at the ward, local government and state levels.
Earlier, Governor Makinde declared that the Oyo PDP had undergone a thorough internal repositioning, insisting that indiscipline and factionalism no longer had any place in the party.
According to him, the party had taken firm decisions since November 2025 to address internal challenges and restore order, allowing it to refocus on governance and consolidation.
“This building marks a new chapter for the PDP in Oyo State,” Makinde said. “It symbolises unity, discipline and our determination to sustain the trust the people of this state have placed in us.”
The governor also announced that the secretariat had been named after Omokunmi Mustapha, a former chairman of the Oyo State PDP who led the party during its successful return to power in the 2019 general elections.
Makinde described Mustapha as a loyal and selfless party man whose role in the PDP’s resurgence in the state deserved lasting recognition. “He was central to our victory. Naming this secretariat after him is our way of immortalising his sacrifice and commitment,” the governor said.
In a pointed political aside, Makinde reacted to recent remarks attributed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on PDP affairs in Oyo State, insisting that the party’s structure and leadership in the state remain firmly in the hands of duly elected officials.
“The PDP in Oyo State is mature enough to manage its own affairs,” he said, adding that decisions affecting the party would continue to reflect the collective will of its members.
Performing the commissioning, PDP National Chairman Turaki praised the Oyo chapter for what he described as exemplary organisation and loyalty to the party’s founding ideals. He noted that strong and united state chapters form the backbone of any successful national party, urging members to sustain internal harmony as the PDP works to reposition itself nationally.
