Popoola emerges Oyo NNPP guber candidate
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially announced the chairman of Oyo State Housing Corporation, Bayo Lawal, as his running mate for 2023 general elections.

The announcement came barely 48 hours after the defection of the incumbent Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makinde made the announcement, yesterday, during a stakeholders’ meeting with Oke-Ogun leaders at the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Ibadan, the state capital.

Lawal, a former attorney-general of the state, hails from Kisi in Irepo Local Council of Oyo State.

IN another development, Mr. Olukayode Popoola has emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Oyo State.

Popoola was picked to fly the party’s flag via consensus after all delegates across the 33 local councils of the state endorsed his candidature through affirmation at the primary held in Ibadan on Monday night.

The NNPP candidate in his acceptance speech said insecurity would be one of his priorities if voted as the governor of the state.

He said: “Insecurity would be one of my cardinal points to address as people are tired of APC and PDP. They are seeking new Nigeria. I’m going to change the narrative, as Oyo State is known for security of lives and property.”

Alhaji Abdul-Bichi Ado, while speaking on behalf of the national leader of the party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, commended leaders of the party in the state, saying that the party has become something to reckon with.

He, however, urged them to continue supporting the party for the dream of a new Nigeria to become reality.
