Man gets one-year sentence for N 1.1m employment scam in Borno

The Borno State High Court has sentenced one Gilbert Nosihe Omorogbe to one-year imprisonment for an employment scam to the tune of N1.1 million.

Omorogbe received his sentence on Wednesday after he was arraigned by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation to the tune of N1, 190,000.00.

The commission, in a statement, revealed that Omorogbe received the sum of N1, 190,000.00 from one Sarah Bulama under the guise of securing employment for her sister and one other person with the National Commission for the Control of Arms and Ammunition, also referred to as the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons).

He failed to secure the jo for them and also failed to return the money he received from them.

According to the EFCC, Omorogbe’s act violates Section 308 of the Penal Code Law of Borno State and is punishable under Section 309.

Omorogbe pleaded guilty to the charges, and the prosecution counsel, S.O Saka, prayed the court to sentence him accordingly.

His legal counsel, however, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

Thereafter, the presiding judge, Justice Muhammad Maina, sentenced him to one-year imprisonment with an option of a fine of N200,000.
