Martins warns FG over RUGA
As mixed reactions continue to trail federal government’s suspension of the proposed Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) settlements across the country, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Martins, has advised government to jettison the idea of acquiring lands across the federation for grazing.
In a statement yesterday, the archbishop commended President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending the project in response to the tension the issue generated, imploring him to resist the temptation of going back to it or any similar project that leave an impression of wanting to promote the welfare, economy and preservation of any section of the country over others.
Such a move, he warned, would undoubtedly further divide the nation along ethnic and possibly religious lines, thereby impacting negatively on the well-being of citizens.
