Mbaise People’s Congress cancels annual colloquium
The Mbaise People’s Congress (MPC) has said that the 2020 edition of the annual Mbaise colloquium, is usually held on August 14 every year in Mbaise, Imo State, has been cancelled.
The cancellation, according to a press statement signed by the Director of Publicity, Ben Nnaji, became necessary because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The statement said: “The National Working Committee of MPC, after a crucial meeting held recently, decided that the 2020 edition of the Mbaise Colloquium cannot hold due to the coronavirus pandemic which has affected people’s lives and activities all over the world.”
The National President, Carl Azudibia, also said in the statement that “the congress could not proceed with the conclave because of the health and general implications for the expected participants who usually throng the conference from home and abroad.
“In its over 25 years of holding the colloquium, this is the second time it would be cancelled abruptly. The first time was in 2014 when the group lost its foundation member, Dan Iheagwara, just a few weeks before the event, which threw the congress into a deep mourning.”
