MBF opposes proposed creation of four new federal tertiary institutions in Zaria
The Middle Belt Forum has criticised Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas, over plans to locate four new federal high institutions of learning in Zaria, saying the schools should be sited in other parts of Kaduna.
According to the body, Zaria city, located in Zone 1 of the state, is over-concentrated with federal institutions, urging a spread to zones two and three geographical parts.
In a statement yesterday, the Chairman of the Kaduna chapter of the MBF, Luka Binniyat, said: “We acknowledge the facilitation of the creation of four brand new high institutions of learning to Zaria town, Zone 1, Kaduna State, by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas, saying such a development, though a positive one, falls short of our commendation and praise because it is insensitive and inconsiderate of other zones, especially the Middle Belt Area of Kaduna State (Southern Kaduna).”
The forum pointed out that recently in Zaria, the Speaker announced that N80 billion had been allocated for the construction of the four schools, expected to be completed within 18 months.
